The Nashville, TN, Rundown

Also known as by the nickname ‘Music City’, Nashville, TN, is considered the home of country music and where major stars of the country stage have found fame. Today, the metropolitan city is still alive with music – quite literally as the main Broadway drag is crowded with honky tonk bars featuring aspiring bands playing anything from country to bluegrass to jazz. Some of the best-known honky-tonks are Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, Legends Corner, Robert’s Western World, and the Stage. The historic Ryman Auditorium, which is home to the famous Grand Ole Opry, is a must-see. There is a backstage tour available that will allow you to see the dressing rooms and even stand on stage. The Country Music Hall of Fame is another mandatory stop in Nashville, TN. This well-curated museum takes you from country music’s beginnings to modern musicians, with colourful memorabilia, photographs and music samples. Tourists mainly stay around Broadway, which has its fill of souvenir shops, bars, and restaurants. Before you leave, make sure you try the ‘meat & three’, which is a local Southern dish that features a meat entrée and three sides, such as collard greens, fried green tomatoes or other Southern specialties.

Nashville General Information

Nashville, Tennessee is incomparable in the Volunteer State of Tennessee and indeed, the United States of America. While the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge swaths of the Appalachians gave rise to a particular brand of music we now call "country", it was in Nashville where it all came together and rose to prominence. International prominence in fact, as the city became the fountainhead for a prototype of music that took the country and parts of the world by storm.

As a paragon capital of live music, concert halls, top in-demand producers and savvy session musicians, Nashville’s “Music City” status thrives close to a century since the advent of the Grand Ole Opry. Country and honky tonk are not the only sounds in town however. From the Tennessee Performing Arts Center and Nashville Opera and Ballet to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the city of 635,000 people has some classical chops as well. Above and beyond music however, excellent landmarks to keep in mind include the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art and The Hermitage - the former plantation home of President Andrew Jackson.
