When To Go

Although Myrtle Beach can have more than 200 days of sunshine per year, the best time to visit is March through September. There are occasional afternoon thunderstorms in the spring and summer months, and August and September are the wettest months.

From October through to early November, the temperature is cooler with daily highs of 60°F (16°C).

The winter months are off-season for Myrtle Beach, with temperatures cooling down to 57°F (14°C) during the day and 35°F (1°C) at night.

Getting There

If traveling by air, the Myrtle Beach (MYR) airport is conveniently located just south of Highway 501 and Route 17 with easy access to the Grand Strand.

If you’d like to travel by bus, the Waccamaw Regional Transport Authority does provide service by way of the Coast RTA, which travels to various cities like Murrell's Inlet, Conway, and Surfside Beach.

General Information

A relatively new city that occupies an enviable stretch of South Carolina shoreline, Myrtle Beach was made for beach vacations. The environment could not be more conducive to family fun, honeymoon romance or spring break revelry, with the best sections of Grand Strand beach within the city limits, world class golf in the area and scores of other leisure and entertainment options.

Ripley’s Aquarium

A large, interactive aquatic animal park, Ripley’s Aquarium puts strange sea creatures front and center in phenomenal and educational fashion.

IMAX Discovery Theater

For the odd rainy day, Myrtle Beach’s excellent IMAX Discovery Theater offers terrific entertainment, with a regular line-up of films worthy of the colossal screens.

Hampton Plantation

A National Historic Landmark, the Georgian-style Hampton Plantation mansion is a throwback to another time in the Old South. A tour of the facility, in addition to the sprawling estate grounds, is well worth the time and short trip outside Myrtle Beach.

Huntingt Island State Park

A short jaunt from Myrtle Beach, Hunting Island State Park has beautiful campgrounds and serves as a precious wildlife refuge to alligators, loggerhead turtles, diamondback rattlesnakes and other animals. The park’s premier landmark however, is a historic Civil War-era lighthouse.

Atalya Castle and Brookgreen Gardens

The former estate and property of famous 20th century sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington is now a National Historic Landmark in excess of 36 km2. A protected wetlands area, the gardens contain beautiful works of art from the former owner.
