General Information

A jewel of the Pacific Northwest, Portland may not have the flash and dash of Seattle or Vancouver, but the premier city in the state of Oregon has a quiet charm that is rare to discover in brash America. A notable pioneer on urban environmental policy, the green and eco-concious city boasts one of the most progressive and active citizenry of any on the continent, let alone the country.

Known as the Rose City, Portland has few thorns for tourists. In fact, the city with a metro population of over 2.1 million has seen an explosive rise in visitors in recent decades. A vibrant arts and cultural scene, growth of a superb wine and microbrewery industry throughout Oregon and new breed of culinary innovators all deserve credit for Portland’s wave of good publicity. Of course, the city remains one of the foremost recreational urban areas in America, with a vast network of bicycle paths, parks and nature trails.
