Date Night

I've satyed at several downtown Chicago hotels and this one has been the best so far with a great location and price. Generally we stay in the suburbs because of cost, but this hotel was affordable and met all of our needs. We enjoyed Millineum Park just around the corner for several short trips during the day while we were waiting to go to scheduled events. We were able to walk everywhere (even Magnificent Mile) and didn't have to waste money on cabs or trains.

Better than I expected

My room was wonderful - clean and smelled good. A great view of Grant Park and off in the distance - Soldier Field. Very short walk from Millennium Station, too. The bed was very comfortable, the marble floored bathroom was very clean and comfortable. The front desk clerk went out of her way to try to help me when I left my business cards at home. The concierge offered a free appetizer at his suggested sports bar. I would stay at this Fairmont again.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Join their free President's Club - your internet connection charge will be refunded, and you'll have free Internet connection every time you stay. Plus Houlihan's Sports bar (next to the Hyatt on Wacker 3 blks) had a $10 Sunday brunch which was more than satisfying. Dinner was affordable at Houlihans at night, too.

Good Points & Bad Points

I was here on a day where no rooms were readily available until well after 3pm. I realize that IS check in time, but not everyone can fly in at the same time and some of us are early birds. They never called me when my room was ready, as promised. I had to badger them about it. The bellhop didn't have my bag delivered to my door until close to 1/2 hour after I got into my room. I called twice and finally, they called me, saying they may have mixed up the tickets. The room was clean and spacious. The decor was modern and nice. The adjacent restaurant/bar, Aria, was amazing. The location leaves a little to be desired, as if you go walking, it's easy to get mixed up and turned around (and this is coming from a native, life-long Chicagoan) There is not much right near the place unless you walk to Michigan Ave. (go north, toward Water Tower, not South. You'll end up in the ghetto otherwise.) However, cabs are plentiful in front of the hotel, so you won't need to walk if you don't want.

Entertainment tip: In Hotel

Try Aria restaurant & bar, inside the hotel. I highly recommend the bartender during the day, Monika. She is hilarious! Ask her about her special, the "Monika Erotica."
