good value formoney to attend a conference at the Convention Centra

Neat and clean hotel. People from overseas- drinking water in vending machines available. Also well connected to public transport. One major downside- lack of availability of food on site especially breakfast. There are no convenience stores at a short distance. There is a small café on site which only opens at nearly 8 am (although the door says 7.30), which was roo late for me. I had to stock cereals which I bought from supermarket in downtown.

South Loop Hotel is Solid

The hotel's beds were very comfortable, the fitness center/gym was great, the parking was very convenient, and the location is very good if you want to be in close proximity to both downtown and the South Side. Most of the staff were friendly but the manager, TK, was not. She needed a warmer attitude. Our room was clean as well except for the blanket in the closet (for extra warmth) which needed to be replaced.

family trip

Had some issues with reservation. Overall hotel was great. Had a minor issue with housekeeping. Would be nice if there were more luggage racks. Only 2 available for entire hotel. Makes checking out during busy morning hours difficult. On site parking was a plus. Deluxe room was nice with an infant. Traveled to meet new family and would stay again.

Good place to stay if you are low maintenance

My husband and I stayed here for seven nights while we attended a conference at McCormick Place and spent a couple of days sight seeing in Chicago. This was our third time in Chicago and I chose to try this hotel because it was closer to McCormick Place than where we had stayed before and also offered free parking. We never had trouble finding parking, even over the weekend, and it was an easy walk to and from the convention center. I know some previous reviews complained about some of the staff being rude, but we found everyone to be very polite and helpful. I know at least two reviews complained about things going missing, but we didn't have any trouble with this either. We had to have our keys reset on two different occasions because apparently there is something with the computer system that automatically deactivates keys after a couple of days, even if you are staying for longer. This was inconvenient, but not a big deal. Because we arrived very late in the evening when we first checked in (around 11 pm), we were placed on the side of the hotel over the club. I think this is also closer to the train. You could hear the train going by during the night, but it didn't bother us. You could hear music from the club on Friday and Saturday night (we were on the second floor, so right above it), but it wasn't so loud that we couldn't sleep through it or drown it out with the tv. The only bad thing was that a private party had been booked on Saturday night and the guests were staying at the hotel. They were a large group and occupied many of the rooms around ours. When we returned on Saturday night at almost 11 pm, it smelled like smoke very strongly in the hallway, even though the entire hotel is non-smoking. I called the front desk and they said that security came on duty at 11 pm and they would notify security when they arrived. The worst thing was when the party got out around 2:20 am, the guests were extremely loud coming back to their rooms. There were probably 20 people or more yelling, cursing, and carrying on in the hallway. This continued for about 30 minutes. During this time, I called the front desk and they said they would notify security. It took a while, but eventually I assume security showed up or the people went to bed on their own. On our last night, we returned to our room and our key wasn't working. We assumed it just needed to be reactivated, but it turned out that the battery was dead on the door device. The manager on duty, TK, sent Yolanda to our room to try to get the door to work. TK didn't seem too eager to call security to come in early (they normally don't come in until 11 pm which was in about 2 hrs). Fortunately, after about an hour, Yolanda was able to get another device to work which got us into our room. In the meantime, she let us into a vacant room next door. Once our room was open, we got our stuff out and spent the final night in the other room, since the battery on the door was still acting up. It was a hassle, but those things can happen and Yolanda definitely went above and beyond the call of duty trying to get us into our room. I would recommend staying at this hotel for the location, the free parking, and the price. If you have trouble sleeping or are uptight and have to have things perfect, then you probably would have a miserable time, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. But if you are low maintenance and able to go with the flow, then you would probably have a good time like we did.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Ricobene's is a short walk (.35 mi) from the hotel. They also have free parking if you decide to drive. The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and quickly prepared.

alarm

The hotel was great and we will probable stay there again. An alarm went off at 0230 and no one knew what it was. The fire department was there, however it still took over 20 minutes in the middle of the night to figure it out. Staff had no explanation. For this inconvenience we did not get anything. I was hoping free breakfast or free night.

Wow for the price

The only bad thing was that the staff wasn't super helpful or friendly. They did their job, but their customer service could be improved (more friendly, more caring, and more timely). Otherwise, great deal, pretty good location, perfect room.

Excellent hotel

Almost faultless. Except for: 1. Do maintenance on room A/C - so noisy. 2. Get rid of bullet holes in room window. Does not inspire safety for out of Towners! 3. Put hotel services information pack in room. Had to go downstairs to find bar and restaurant info. 4. I like my coffee with cream and sugar. Would have liked to have had some in my room. These are the little attention-to-details that would have made it one great stay.

WWWOOOWWW!!

I knew when I booked it the location. I just THOUGHT(hoped, wished, & wondered) that they would impress me but NO! Upon check-in the receptionist was indifferent, not engaging or very helpful. Then 20m BEFORE check-out WITH a DO NOT DISTURB sign on, the cleaning woman bangs on the door, yells 'housekeeping' & (if the latch wasn't on th e door...WALKS IN!) My boyfriend & I said loudly, were getting dressed to check out. Had she been able to walk in, she would have saw me in the bathroom half dressed.

Hidden Gem

The convention I attended an McCormick did not include South Loop Hotel in its official list, and the other attendees were quite jealous when I told them it was a 9 minute walk away. They were taking shuttles from downtown! The room was roomy and clean, and what a great price! There was one glitch in that somewhere my reservation was lost (not sure who's responsible for that), but a phone call cleared that up, and there was still a room for me.
