Royal Kona - not so royal

Hmmm.... what can I say.....the Royal Kona is well due for an upgrade. The rooms, although spacious are very tired and old. Linen is very thin and rooms are past the fresh clean look. The location is excellent....right on the waterfront and everything you need just outside the door. Nice atmosphere in the bar but the dining area in desperate need of some work. Resort seems a little overpriced for the age and condition. On a positive note, the Luau was fantastic. Great value compared to other options in Waikiki. Plenty of food and drinks and the show once the sun went down was amazing.

Noisy and lost our laundry

The location is good and rooms are spacious and comfortable. However, it is noisy because we can hear people walking upstairs and when we were just softly walking we got complaint from people on the lower floor. My wife did laundry at night. When she returned she saw the dryer door open and we lost 2 shorts and one beach towel.

Holiday returning home

Initial reception was not good as we had been delayed and arrived late. The room offered was unacceptable , not clean or prepared properly. We were up-graded complimentary which was a very big improvement, although decore was dated but properly clean. Buffet/restraunt was very good and good value for money, of course the bar was excellent. Would definitely return again but would " insist" on a good room. Swimming pool was a must and we used it extensively.

Hawaiian Feel

We were first put in rooms in the Lagoon Tower. I was not happy with the rooms and asked to be moved into the main building. They moved us into our new rooms the following morning, in the Alii Tower, then all was great.

Pass the blame Staff

Although a little dated on the outside, the resort has everything you need, EXCEPT for helpful staff. We had booked a tour for Mauna Kea and the company was unable to contact us with location changes. Unable to contact us directly, they called the Resort and left a message for us at 1:30pm, only for the front desk to unsuccessfully pass on the message when we checked in at 3:40pm. This resulted in us missing our tour. After speaking with the tour company and learning about the undelivered message, we then asked the front desk, and there was indeed a message waiting for us. The front desk then not only refused to take any responsibility for this, there was NO apology. Even when the "Activities" manager called our room, there was NO apology, they simply tried to blame the tour company.

The style of the resort - all openness and panoramic ocean view. I am happy just setting in the bar area, looking to the ever changing view of the sea - what a beautiful day. Staff are worm and caring, making one feel being taking care of.

We love Royal Kona

My partner and I have stayed at the Royal Kona Resort two times both times for approximately 7 days each.We love this hotel. Its really well located and an easy walk to all the shops in Kona. The staff are friendly and helpful. The bar/restaurant is great and the food is delicious. You can sit on the balcony and watch the Luau and take in the beautiful sunsets. The only problem we have encountered is it can be alittle noisy if you have loud neighbours. You can really hear other doors shutting and people talking through the walls. We were kept awake until 3 in the morning on our last visit due to our rather noisey neighbours, but apart from that we would definately recommend the Royal Kona for couples or families.

Great Location, great staff

We had 8 days here in May 2014. Older hotel but superb location right on rocky coast and right in eating shopping coffee strip. Staff very helpful and friendly and good value for money. Highly recommend. The Dons Mai Thai bar for sunsets was a very relaxing way to end our busy days. Would stay again

Great view but old

Biggest problem is everything is extra. Old rooms but clean. No what used to be "frills" but now expected. Charged high rates for Wifi, breakfast, etc. Bar has outstanding view but bartenders are slow and hard to find. Had to ask for menu's at the tables and basically had to bang on the bar to get a drink.
