Very friendly service

The staff is very service minded, the hotel is a bit used, but clean and nice. The breakfast ok good service but you should get up early to be sure to get a table. The hotel is located in a area with many homeless people however we never felt unsafe. To get to town center you just walk 3 streets to the cable-car. Family 3 adults and 1 children.

Wonderful California Trip

The hotel was great! It was close to mass transit. The cable cars were fun to ride, but crowded at some times. Definitely ride a bike over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Good Wheelchair Access Room

Everything was very good and central to all the sights of the city. Breakfast was ordinary and parking expensive --- its disabled accessible room worked just right, albeit the lift in the lobby is a bit time consuming.

one day, last minute trip to SF at Opal hotel:

location is OK, not great, need to take a bustaxi to main city locations. (15-20 min walk from Bart station) Rooms - small and old but clean. shower very small, and not comfortable. low level flors are little noisy during late night and early morning (from street noise). Staff - friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was very simple and basic

Fulfilled my basic needs

I went to San Fran to visit a friend. He lives in the tenderloin and doesn't have a car. He recommended that we stay in the same area. For those who don't know, this area is a very rough part of town. It's dirty with lots of homeless people. I don't fault the hotel for the area, but the room was tiny with a really bad smell. After a day or two, it went away. I'm not sure if it actually did or we just got used to it. Also, the tv is at a weird angle, which made it hard for someone sitting further away to see it. We didn't take advantage of their brunch, but the free wifi (though slow) was nice. If I visit my friend again, I'd probably stay in this hotel again due to the convenient location to my friend's place.

Clean and well staffed

I was very happy with this hotel, especially considering what you get in San Francisco for your money. The decor is very dated but everything appears to be clean and well maintained. The room was much larger and the location as good or better than a hotel I stayed at a few days before for the same money. The continental breakfast was ok but not overwhelming. It's certainly not a resort but for me a hotel in the city is just a place to rest and relax before getting back out there. If that's what you're looking for, the Opal does the job. All the staff I met were professional and friendly. Considering the sketchy options available in San Francisco for those within a reasonable budget, I'll be staying here again rather than risking another nightmare hotel.

Good price especially for the great location

Everything was really great! The room itself was large and very clean. The beds were ridiculously comfortable. Only complaint is that the elevator wasn't working and the stairs were pretty cramped (we had a girl on crutches with us). I'm sure that was just a fluke though. Oh also the staff was very friendly and the free continental breakfast was very much appreciated. Really pleased with the quality especially since it was one of the cheaper hotels in the heart of sf.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Use lyft instead of traditional cabs. It's an app for your phone. We used it all weekend and felt safe plus saved a ton of cash.

Charming old hotel

Nothing exceptional except that there was a complimentary breakfast for all hotel guests, simple, down to earth but good. So, good value - saves some bucks, no need to chase around for a café or diner in the morning. The location was a little bit 'off' - but for city walkers like us it was no problem. There are surprisingly many beggars and other destitute people in San Francisco, which is a bit of a surprise, but they are all over the place.

Short stay but comfortable

Would have been an excellent stay but I was dissapointed in the hotel not having a parking for their customers and the showers had no pressure at all. However, I did enjoyed staying in historical hotel.
