Cable Car Museum
The Cable Car Museum is a San Francisco attraction dedicated to preserving the history of the city’s cable car system. In the past, cable cars operated all over the city but electric streetcars eventually replaced many in the early 1900s. Since cable cars are still in place in select neighbourhoods, visitors can actually ride the cars to the museum itself. One of the big tourist draws of the Cable Car Museum is its cable car exhibit, which features actual cars from the 1800s. Since the museum offers free admission, tourists can visit without worrying about the impact on their wallets.
- Climb aboard one of the antique San Francisco cable cars on display at the Cable Car Museum, including the Clay Street Hill Railroad #8 car.
- Stand on the deck of the Cable Car Museum, where you can look down and watch the lines and pulleys that operate the cable car line in motion.
- Stop by the museum’s gift shop to pick up a few souvenirs of your time in San Francisco such as a cable car bell or a t-shirt.
Arriving in San Francisco by air is easy, since most flights land at San Francisco International Airport. In some cases, flights from domestic locations may arrive at nearby Oakland International. From both airports, visitor can take the Bay Area Rapid Transit system trains from their terminals to the city centre. To get to the Cable Car Museum, tourists can take the Muni bus system using route numbers 1 and 30. For an authentic experience, visitors can take the Powell-Hyde or Powell-Mason cable car lines directly to the Cable Car Museum.
