Portola

Nice clean comfortable hotel. We booked a two bed room and these were only double beds. The rooms will be due an upgrade at some point as it's looks as if they have had 10 years of use. The lobby, reception all very nice but the additional fee for parking and WiFi is a big turn off for the cost. The hotel lacks amenities but is central to both the wharf and centre. Overpriced at $300 but this may be due to the area as much as the hotel. The little things count and WiFi $+, parking $19 and lack of amenities drop the hotel from a 4 to a 3 star. On rooms and location alone it scores a 4.

Portola Hotel

Clean upmarket hotel right in the middle between the town centre and the wharf, great location for walking at night for bar / restaurant. When you enter the lobby it feels a grand luxury hotel and the rooms were certainly luxury 10-15 years ago but like everything with age deterioration creeps in and complacency occurs. Given the area and the location of this hotel they can pretty much charge what they want - unfortunately on top of the room rate you will have to pay for WiFi and Parking, these little things make an already expensive hotel more expensive. It is a reasonable 4 star hotel but overpriced for what you get but this is as much to do with the area as it is the hotel. We only stayed one night and at $300 all up I wouldn't stay again here. Service excellent, rooms ok, location great, amenities lacking.

Room problems

Well the view was not a good one we were facing the view of the court yard it was dirty of bird poo and cobb webs on the next roof. The fan in the room made noise also no water pressure in the shower
