Good value, pleasant accomodation
We had booked this motel on-line from the other side of the world. We knew it was alongside a motorway and associated with a rest area. It was surprisingly quiet for such a location and we weren't disturbed by traffic noise at all.
The room was
very comfortable and I was also pleased to find that free WiFi was provided to guests. Parking is free once you identify the photograph of your number plate that was taken as you entered the car park.
The hotel lacks its own dining/breakfast facilities and provides discounted vouchers to get meals at the associated service area facilities. This is only slightly inconvenient.
The service area food facilities are very basic and we felt that they would not pass muster with an Australian health inspector - poorly washed cutlery in the boxes! After our first meal there we mentioned this to the hotel reception and the next day we noticed that the washed cutlery was being checked and polished properly as it was returned from the dish-washer.
Once the new facility of a major world-wide hamburger chain (currently under construction) is opened, I think the competition will also improve the menu choices. On the Saturday night there was more custom and more choice - on the Sunday the item that they were promoting with a large sign beside the entrance turned out to be unavailable!
I had used Google Maps to locate the place and found it easy to access when approaching from the North - it is on the left (South-east) side of the motorway. We had booked two nights and went down to Exeter on the intervening day. On our return we left the motorway via the service bay on the North-bound side expecting to find a prominent sign directing us to the South-bound side to get to the motel.
No such luck! In order to gain access to the motel (I'm glad I had a tablet with Google Maps and a mobile broad-band connection with me!) you have to go towards the north end of the service centre, follow a microscopic blue sign with a bed on it that directs you to the left of the service station (we missed this and almost got ourselves back on the motorway!) and drive out of the service bay past a large NO-ENTRY sign while following another tiny sign that allows "Authorized Access Only". This takes you down a narrow track to a T-junction with a small country road that passes under the motorway. Turn right and go under the bridge, then take the first turn right - no sign, but there's a farm-house on the corner - and then turn right again into a back-access road for the Truck Parking Bay. Ignore the warning sign that restricts entry to Police, Ambulance and Service vehicles, and drive down to the boom-gate that is blocking your way. Press the unmarked button on the control-box and the nice lady at the hotel reception desk will open the gate for you. This could be better sign-posted!!
Aside from all this it's a good value, pleasant place to stay.
