Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Stirling has mild winters and cool, wet summers. Winter temperatures average about 43°F (6°C), and summers average 64°F (18°C). The western highlands are some of the wettest in Scotland, and annual precipitation exceeds 118 inches (2,997 mm); the Lowlands receive less than 32 inches (813 mm).
Getting There & Around
Although there are three airports (Edinburgh, Glasgow and Prestwick), the most convenient airport for Stirling is the Edinburgh Airport. Located 29 miles (47 km) from the city, it is easily accessed via the M9 motorway by rental car, bus or train.
There are several buses that travel about to other towns. During the summer, sightseeing buses and walking are great ways to see the sights.
