Found on a meander line of the River Thames, Richmond is one of the most posh suburbs of London and home to many of the city’s wealthiest citizens. Because of all of its green open spaces and parks, it is known as one of the best places in London to live. Due to the fact that it has more than two hundred shops, Richmond is also known as one of the premier up-market shopping areas in London and people flock to the independent stores on George Street and to the Farmer’s market which operates in Heron Square on Saturdays.
- Stroll around Richmond Park, which is a National Nature Preserve, Site of Scientific Interest, as well as the largest royal park in all of London.
- Walk around the beautiful scenery of Richmond Green, which is also the beginning of the Old Palace Lane that leads to the river and a great spot for a picnic.
- Check out Maids of Honour Row, which is an interesting part of London history, as it once housed the royal wardrobe servants of the wife of King George II and were built in the early 18th century.
Richmond Station is not only the western terminus of the London Underground system but it is also the westernmost ending to the London Overground Line that goes to Stratford. Since most people in Richmond do not own cars, they have to rely heavily on buses, which have at least a dozen routes that service the area. There are also boats on the River Thames, although these are much more for pleasure cruising than commuting and most passengers just end up in one of the many pubs and restaurants that are located around Richmond Bridge.
