Ok hotel, poor booking company

Upon arrival at the hotel it became apparent the H0tel Club had not made the prepayment despite having already taken my money. I had to incease my card limit to cover the pre authorisation. The staff were helpful and understanding. will stay at the Thistle again, but will not book through H0tel Club.

Functional and clean`

Hotel was found as described. Only a couple of minor crumbles. Firstly the Tv in the room kept flashing a continuous message on all BBC stations stating "the service is unavalible" Secondly the heated towel rail in the bathroom did not work and the heater for the room is noisey. Brought it to the receptionists attention, but to be fair, she was not that intrested. Also slightly annoying, you have to pay for overnight parking.

Fabulous View over marina, shame bar was not stocked.

We paid extra for a view over harbour/marina. Well worth it. Staff all very friendly and nothing was too much bother. However when we checked in we were told that there was a wedding on. Not a problem as we were meeting friends for dinner. Problem was that the bar was almost bare. Only one draft lager operating, no Sauvignon Blanc only house white, only bottled ale ( only 4 bottles) etc. paying £160 per night for room only should have had better.

Good hotel but car park problems

Stayed here with 10 other couples for whom I had booked all 11 rooms. Good value, great breakfast, but the car park is operated by some kind of security company and 2 of my group have since received parking fines of £60 or £80 - something of that order. This is despite entering their car details to key pad as requested. Make sure hotel reception do log your car reg correctly.

Functional in good location, dated and overpriced

Thought the 4* rating was overrated. Dated hotel throughout (refurb underway) but the main issue is price, the bar prices and room rates are geared at a nice 4* hotel prices - this seems to be a self belief that the Superb location alone warrants the price tag. A double bed (not yet refurbed) was two singles bolted together... With two mattresses, leaving an uncomfortable ridge. The view was of the car park and the toiletaries and snacks were reminissant of a £30pn b&b.

Breakfast in JD wether spoons Is half the price and surprisingly tastey. Hotel food has bad reviews and very expensive. "spoons" was a great breakfast sat outside in the winter sun, watching the cars and boats pass by brown sea Island. First class, second class price!

Room had broken window which meant

Room had broken window which meant it couldn't be shut. We were not informed of check out time and so they tried to charge us a late checkout charge as we were an hour late. Learning is to ask what time check out is next time!

Bar service/stock not very good.

Bar service/stock not very good. Returned to hotel after evening out and wanted a drink before retiring around 11.00 p.m. Guest bar was closed and advised to go upstairs where wedding disco was taking place - manager said guests wouldn't mind, although we were soon spotted as not being friends of bride/groom! No baileys behind bar. Requested malibu/pineapple following lunchtime, told no pineapple only orange. Also not much choice of wine by glass!

The basic rooms are perfectly

The basic rooms are perfectly adequate, with indifferent service at the front desk and bar. Hotel is definitely a 'no frills' place but in an excellent location at the quayside, just don't expect to be blown away by the room, facilities or service. We would stay there again because of the great location.
