No bargain

Check-in is managed by the Days Hotel, which is housed in the same complex. First, I was offered breakfast at £6.95 - when I agreed to this, another staff member interrupted and raised the price to £9.95. I declined as I didn't appreciate the duplicity. Then I was told that the car park was £2 - only after I parked the car was I told that this rate expired at midnight - not much use to overnight guests. I was duly relieved of £10 at the car park the next day. To be fair to the staff at the Days, they did waive the breakfast charge after I spoke with the manager. The room itself was tiny, a little hot and lacking ventilation. It also had a lock which could be secured only with difficulty. However, it was reasonably clean and adequate for one night - just. However, once you add in the car-park rip-off, I ended up paying over £40. The following day, I drove about 10 minutes out of town and got a much better room with free, on-site parking for around the same price Weston Hall is tolerable for one night, but no bargain. You will be far better off at one of the many guest houses within 10 minutes of the city.

Not great.

First of all, this hotel wasn't as easy to find as first anticipated, even some of the locals did not know where it was. When I arrived at 8pm the visitor information centre in the city centre was closed so unable to ask for better directions.. When I eventually arrived at reception and presented my reservation, I was firstly told that I was only booked in for one night not two (not true upon checking) then they attempted to charge me an additional £58.00 despite the fact I had already presented the confirmation to say I had paid online! Room itself was pretty small and basic. Bed wasn't very comfortable (like sleeping on a sheet of wood) and only one pillow provided. There were no extra linen/blankets in the wardrobe/drawers. Tea and coffee facilities weren't great as there was just a small kettle, a few tea/coffee/milk sachets and no cups. Student bar is right over the road so didn't sleep due to noise until after 2am. On checking out I was again attempted to be charged for the room I had already paid for! It was a basic 4 walls, bed and tiny en suite. I booked it originally as a cheap and cheerful option because of working in Manchester but I would not stay there again. I would rather go somewhere a bit more expensive and have somewhere comfortable stay and staff that knew what they were doing! It really is true you get what you pay for. Not recommended unless you are really stuck for somewhere else to stay!

Okay for budget conscious - Basic No Frills. Good location

These are student halls of residence and as you would expect from the room charges the rooms are very basic; standard single bed but comfortable enough, basic bath room (shower only). Also is a desk/office chair and wardrobe. Room was clean enough but showing good few signs of wear. But for the cost the location is great, only a 5 minute walk from Piccadilly train station and 5-10 mins from main shops/bars areas. When we were there (weekend) it was very quiet on a night, i.e. no disturbances from either internal or external party people. Staff in the halls were helpful as were the staff in the adjoining Manchester Conference Centre and associated hotel. Breakfast was included in my £30 per night deal and was decent enough. Being a self service of hot "full English" ware and also croissants, etc and tea/coffee machines for numerous refills.. I would recommend this for short stay if you are on a budget and do not expect the rooms to be luxurious!

Would recommend the breakfast (it is served in the adjoining hotel), was okay standard.
