Jewish Museum hotels
The Jewish Museum in Manchester, England was built in an attempt to celebrate more than 200 years of history of the Jewish people in Manchester. The museum is housed inside of a Moorish Revival-style building that was once a Spanish and Portuguese synagogue built in the 19th century by local architect Edward Salomons. The design of the building’s architecture is a tribute to the style found in Moorish Spain and features two tiers of horseshoe windows on the façade that were symbolic of the style. The interior houses exhibits that tell the rich and tumultuous history of the Jewish people.
- Explore the religious and cultural textiles exhibit to see well-preserved artefacts including Torah mantles, skullcaps, ark curtains, Challah cloths, and tallisim, an interesting trip through Jewish history in Manchester.
- Marvel at more than 25,000 images in the photographs collection, a diverse exhibit that has pictures showing everything from political protests in Manchester to Jewish weddings.
- Make an appointment to visit the library of the Jewish Museum and you can see texts and pamphlets on a wide range of topics including Jewish religion, Zionism, and anti-Semitism, as well as great works of literature.
The Jewish Museum is inter-connected by the city’s dense network of efficient public transportation, so it is easy to get to from just about anywhere in the city. You can take the train or tram to Manchester’s Victoria station and from there you can take a bus, being sure to get off at the Cheetham Hill Road/Broughton Street stop that is just a short walk from the museum. Those who drive will find parking around the museum building or at the Manchester Fort Shopping Centre that is a short walk away.
