Imperial War Museum North
The Imperial War Museum North in Trafford, Manchester is an award winning landmark building that houses numerous exhibitions depicting the impact of war and conflict on communities. The striking architecture of the building represents three fragments of war debris (called shards) used to describe battle on land, sea and air. Displays aim not to glorify war, but to call to mind the sacrifice, tragedy and resultant impact of war in the 20th and 21st centuries. With extensive collections, special exhibitions, audio-visual displays, children’s storytelling sessions, and the WaterShard Café, the museum has appeal for a wide and diverse audience.
- Tour the Imperial War Museum North and experience The Big Picture exhibition, where audio-visual content and art works completely occupy the circular space drawing you into the displays.
- Climb the 180 steps of the museum’s Air Shard to the viewing platform with views across the waterways, MediaCityUK, the city of Manchester, and the new site being developed for the filming of the Coronation Street TV Show.
- Visit the Granada Television’s back lot of Coronation Street (the longest running TV soap opera in history), which is filmed in Manchester city centre.
