Exchange Square hotels
The city of Manchester, England, has had a tumultuous history, including the IRA bombing of Exchange Square in 1996 that left the area decimated and hundreds of people injured. Manchester has since gone to great lengths to restore Exchange Square, turning the site of a major disaster into a centre of social life and commerce within the city. Exchange Square is now the home of many major stores and retailers, including the largest Next store in the world, as well a number of upscale fashion boutiques, restaurants and entertainment options.
- Soar 60 metres above Exchange Square on the Wheel of Manchester, a Ferris wheel that stands at the centre of the square and affords great views of the surrounding area.
- Sit on the stone benches and watch the massive 25-square metre BBC Big Screen television that faces Exchange Square; it is a wonderful place to relax on a sunny afternoon in Manchester.
- Shop for just about anything you could wish for at the Triangle Shopping Centre, located in an historic building in Exchange Square that features a number of upmarket shops.
Manchester features efficient and convenient public transportation, so getting to Exchange Square is relatively easy from just about anywhere in the city. The Manchester Victoria station is the closest train stop, and is about a five minutes’ walk away from Exchange Square. There are also a number of bus stops near the Piccadilly Gardens, and the nearest stop of the tram is at Shudehill or Victoria. Although Exchange Square is well connected by motorways, parking can be difficult to find, especially during the weekends. It is advised that visitors use the train.
