Located on the north bank of the river Mersey, Didsbury is a quaint suburb situated about seven kilometres from the city centre of Manchester. Didsbury has a long, rich history that dates back to the 13th century and there are still medieval buildings and churches remaining from that era, including the St. James Parish Church. Didsbury prospered during the Victorian expansion of Manchester and there are Victorian mansions dappled throughout the city. Now Didsbury is primarily known for its green spaces, upmarket shopping and European-like café culture.
- Visit Didsbury Village, a shopping centre with a distinctly European feel, as it features many outdoor cafes, coffee shops and clothing boutiques that make people forget they are in Manchester.
- Stroll through the beautiful grounds of the Fletcher Moss Botanical Garden, where you will be treated to a colourful melange of plants from around Manchester and the world.
- Take a break from the bustle of Manchester at the tranquil Didsbury Park, a communal green space that offers great places to play bowls or play a rousing game of football.
The Manchester Airport is only about six and a half kilometres from Didsbury and you can reach the city easily by direct shuttle bus. There are cheap and quick buses that depart from the city centre of Manchester for Didsbury every few minutes. National Cycling Route 62, known locally as the Trans Pennine Trail passes from West Didsbury to East and is a popular way to get around the city. There are many small shops and historical buildings near the city centre that are best admired on foot, as Didsbury is very pedestrian friendly.
