Craft Centre hotels
Whilst Manchester may once have had a reputation as an industrial centre of the United Kingdom, these days it is known as a hub for culture, entertainment and art. One location that shows off the city's rich art scene is Manchester CraftCentre, in the northeast of the city. The two-storied building is an ideal location from which to buy handcrafted gifts and products from a variety of skilled craftsmen. The building is split into various studios and stalls that sell goods made on-site, so you should find something unique for everyone if you explore.
- Browse around the centre and check out the many different craftsmen and women who work and create there; from textiles to pottery to jewellery, there's a lot to look at.
- Attend a workshop. With many different crafts to choose from and a number of skilled artisans to teach you, the Manchester Craft Centre is the perfect location to improve your skills.
- Relax at the end of the day in the Oak St. café in Manchester, where hand-made cakes and food are available alongside the usual (and some unusual) choices for hot and cold drinks.
Manchester is pretty well connected transport-wise, and the centre is no exception. You could take a train into Manchester and walk the short distance to the city centre. Take one of the city's trams or hop on the No.2 bus to reach the Craft Centre. Alternatively, the city has parking in many locations, including the Manchester Fort shopping centre. If you're coming from Manchester Airport, there are regular shuttle services to the city, whilst from London a train can be well worth the cost (compared to the relative discomfort or hassle of the two alternatives: a coach or domestic flight).
