Band on the Wall
Band on the Wall, one of Manchester's most vibrant live music venues, has a long history dating back to its days as a local brew pub in the mid-19th century. Whilst its current name has only been used since the 1930s, it was first known as the George and Dragon. The pub prospered with the Industrial Revolution, and it became a popular venue where street performers and musicians entertained customers for tips. Even World War II air raids couldn't dampen the vitality of Band on the Wall, and the club still draws the best musicians from around the globe.
- Experience some of the best music festivals in the U.K., such as the Manchester Jazz Festival, Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival, and Cultural Collage, at Band on the Wall.
- Enjoy the nightlife of Manchester's Northern Quarter, a hidden gem where you can find some of the best jazz clubs in the city including Ruby Lounge, Roadhouse, and Night and Day.
- Browse some of the most unique shops in Manchester, like Affleck's Palace, a goth, punk, and alternative clothing bazaar and vinyl and leather costume extravaganza located in a huge Victorian building.
The Manchester Airport is only ten kilometres from Band on the Wall, which is located in the city centre. Drivers can access this part of the city using the M56 motorway when coming from the south and the M61 from the north. Those driving from Leeds and Liverpool will use the M60, while drivers coming from Scotland can use the M6. The Piccadilly and Victoria rail stations service this area, and the bus station is on Chorlton Street. There are plenty of public transportation options available, including trams, metrobus, and taxis.
