One word ...... Awful

When we arrived at the Somerset hotel we were greeted by a dirty reception room. The man at the reception desk seemed friendly and have us a key to our room. We went up the several flights of stairs of holes in the wall and plaster stains. When we got to our room we noticed it was very small but we weren't to worried we wanted to go and have some dinner as we had been travelling all day. We went to the local attractions which were around the corner. On returning that night we noticed the room was so cold. We went down to reception to ask them to sort out the heating which after a few rude comments he did. The heating began working and as we were getting ready for bed I noticed the bathroom toilet was brown and filthy. Also there was a draught coming from the top window where the window didn't shut properly. I went down to reception to ask about getting the draught fixed or could we be moved as it was now 11.30 at night and after a long day I just wanted to sleep. We were moved to another room which was shown to us by a different man on reception. I noticed that the room had no bath panels and had a crack in the ceiling above the shower and a lot of water damage. He explained to me that this was the only room available so I said I wasn't happy about it but I couldn't sleep in a draughty room so we reluctantly moved. In the morning we were told we would be moved to another room. We ventured down to breakfast which was in a filthy bar and was incredibly inadequate for a " contential breakfast". I spoke to the manager again in the morning and asked for a refund for the awful night we had to spend in a inadequate room which was full of damp. The manager was awfully rude to me and refused to give me a refund. I will be taking this matter further as the stay that we had was awful and we were forces to stay in poor conditions. We were eventually moved to a much better room which was adequate for our stay. Still wasn't the cleanest room in the world. Overall I would not reccommed the Somerset hotel to anyone it is unclean and the room are full of damp. The staff are rude and the food is awful.

Well located, but nothing special... unless it gets better after renovations

This hotel is well located if you want to be near central or have easy access to the rest of London via the tube. The room was nothing special, was not dirty, but did not feel particularly welcoming. It can get noisy, so you may want to avoid if you sleep light. Staff was friendly and fast to respond, but not sure I got good value for money.
