City getaway

Only good thing about hotel is location. Close to subway and portobello road. Hotel room clean but small. Breakfast simple but ok. However room in the basement &there was a constant noise so had to sleep with earplugs plus some staff at front desk not friendly at all. Barely a hello.

Perhaps forgivable ...

The room was more expensive than advertised on RatesToGo because shortly before payment the hotel’s own taxes and fees were added (roughly twenty per cent!). Another surprise was that the hotel required a deposit (twenty pounds) at check in. However, all this is perhaps forgivable because everything else was fine: the room was clean and bright (recently decorated), the heating and shower could be controlled properly, there were two elevators (which both worked!), the buffet breakfast was basic but plentiful (nothing luxurious of course), and the street was quiet. Although the address is Princes Square, the entrance is on the street between Leinster Square and Princes Square.

Close to the city

This is more of a hostel than an actual Hotel, I had a room for four and we had enough beds but ut was cramp in the space dept. The Bkfst was good, not great but good. The location is close to the city, bus stop was a mile away. If you are looking for a place to stay with not the best of comforts then I suggest the place, if I had a second visit I would try to find a better place. The internet can only be access from the lobby plus the rest of the people staying there.

When something goes wrong

The hotell lost the electrisity the last night of my 3-days stay there. No information were given, unless when you asked. So after packing my suitcase in the dark, dressing in the dark, with now shower, because the bathroom were totaly dark, I checed out. And the lady in the reception asks: Is everything all right? NO, I replyed: We are very sorry for the problems, she then told. Nothing more! This is not the way to handle problems.

Easy access, near substation, everyting ok

Typical British building. Fitted carpets, tenuous soundproof and leaking windows. But, continental breakfast was excellent and yes, short distance to nearest substation will make this for consideration.

Great location!

This is my second time staying at this hotel, the first being exactly a year ago when I came with my husband and I was 5 months pregnant. Back then we got the basement room which was a bit dinky but served its purpose as all we wanted was a place to crash in at night after a day's sightseeing. But be warned as per previous reviews mentioned: the basement room will get all the noise at breakfast time. This time around we came with our 8-month old baby, and my elderly inlaws (father-in-law not so mobile). Our rooms were on the 4th floor and much nicer than the ones we got last year. Very basic, but comfortable. We requested an infant cot, which was clean and in good condition, and also an iron/ironing board, which was also good. Space is always a premium for London lodgings and to be honest I've stayed at a £250/night boutique hotel in London with all the sophisticated facilities and luxury million-threadcount sheets but the room space is just as congested as this basic hotel. Breakfast is OK, with toast, some cereals, yoghurt, cheese, tea/coffee, and boiled egg. I wasn't too fussed as there were so many other places outside that I wanted to check out. The only major glitch is the lifts (elevator). Super slow! But if you're in no hurry you'll be fine. Otherwise, there are 2 'public' bathrooms--one on basement floor and the other near the reception. (ha-ha) Location of the hotel is the winning factor here. Bayswater/Queensway/Ladbroke Grove is a fairly moneyed area of London so the hotel is situated in a leafy green area. It's nice to take a walk around this place. There are NUMEROUS eateries, cafes, and pubs enough to satisfy everyone. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are a very short walk away. Notting Hill and the shopping area around Ledbury Road are walkable too. There's Whiteleys shopping centre nearby also---this place has cinema and a few nice restaurants upstairs. It's served well by buses on both ends (Queensway and Bayswater Road), the Tube (same named stations), and the tourist sightseeing bus stop is near too. Paddington station is also near so if you're coming from Heathrow so it's very convenient. All in all it's a comfortable and basic hotel if all you want is an OK bed, clean bathroom, small tv, tea/coffee making facilities, and basic breakfast. No-fuss room to crash in after a day's activities in London!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

You name the country, there's probably an eatery place around a 5-10 minute walking radius from the hotel. There's Indian, Greek, Italian, Persian, Mexican, Malaysian, Chinese, Lebanese, French, Organic, gastropub, American-style burger and milkshake joint, all easily come to mind. This is a very nice area to explore around.

More like a hostel than a hotel

The fire alarms were tested while we were trying to sleep, would have been nice to have some warning on that. The rooms were not very clean. The website claims wireless internet and a 24 hour service desk, but there was no wireless and nobody answered the phone when I tried calling them (either time). There was only one working elevator, and it was the smallest and slowest elevator that I have ever seen. This is not a very family-friendly place to stay. It was very noisy all night long. I'm glad we were only there for one night. This was more like a hostel than a hotel.

Nice Little Budget Stay

It was a little out of the way but I was surprised by how clean and friendly this hotel was. I bought it at the last minute at an amazingly decent price and was surprised that once you walked through the doors, the reception was very bright and spacious and the check-in process was very quick and simple. Once we got to the room, the first thing that struck me was how pristine it was, certainly not the biggest I have stayed in but for a twin bedded room, it was compact but well equipped with tea making facilities and a lovely little en-suite bathroom. The hotel also offers a nice continental breakfast and a nice atmosphere, and for the money you would find it hard to do better.
