tube train noise kept me wake

Got upgraded to suite so was really pleased until I realised it was virtually on top of six tube train tracks. Got only four hours of sleep as some of the noise reducing secondary glazing was also missing in the bedroom.

Mediocre property...will not return.

Had TWO rooms booked which were provided on the first floor. In summary: - First floor shares hall with kitchen / breakfast lounge....persistent strong odors from food and cooking. - No temperature control in rooms; heat only due to "winter" protocol....slept in HOT rooms for 3 nights. - Bedding needs replacement as it is evidently worn and aged....slept in uncomfortable beds for 3 nights. - Carpeting in rooms and halls needs basic cleansing. - Had to change hair dryer in room twice as they did not work. - Taking pictures in lobby / common areas is forbidden and sternly brought to our attention; yet these areas are freely shown all over the internet. Staff is courteous and professional but property lacks quality. For $300.00/nt. even in London; better properties can be had. This is our second stay at a Park Plaza hotel in London with issues. Prior stay involved failures in their wake up call system which failed repeatedly costing us $256.00 in the loss of a prepaid tour. However, Park Plaza managers do write great apology letters with promises to address all issues....glad for them.

1st trip to UK

A friend recommended this hotel after staying there about a year ago: I'm pleased to say it lived up to his recommendation. When booking, we requested (& paid for) a room with a river view. Our room was on the 5th floor and the view was appreciated - day and night - it was amazing! All staff were very pleasant and accommodating. We had a minor maintenance issue the first night of our stay and it was repaired promptly after being reported - great service! The location suited us. It was only a few minutes walk to the train station (incl. underground) and we felt safe and were comfortable with walking to major tourist areas - London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Regent St., & across the river to Parliament, Hyde Park etc. - although these were a long walk away! About the only negative is that food & drinks seemed a bit expensive (approx. $50 for 2 beers & 2 scotchs at the bar!). Our room didn't include breakfast and we didn't eat any meals (either room service or in the restaurants) so can't comment on the quality but noted the full breakfast was about $25. There were a few cafes close by for meals (good food & $'s!) as well as a small shop just next door to the hotel which was handy for snacks or breaky on the go! Overall, one of the better hotels we've stayed in (across Europe or Aus.) and we would happily stay there again!

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

If you feel safe and comfortable with walking, most major tourist areas were only a few kms from the hotel. We only used public transport if we had a long distance to travel or time restrictions meant walking wouldnt be quick enough.

Enjoyable stay

We had a lovely night away in London. For us, a bit further from central London than we hoped, but we enjoyed the walk all the same. The room and bathroom were very clean, and the view over the Thames was beautiful. There was a slight problem with late check out, with which we were made to feel problematic by the reception staff. Apart from this, lovely hotel and generally lovely staff.
