ideal location

Arriving from heathrow after 30 hours flying it was great to get on the airport express train to paddington station and only have to walk a couple of blocks to this hotel. Location was perfect. Room was small and bathroom tiny, but that is common in London. Beds comfortable and we had an opening window, away from the street so room was very quiet. Complimentary continental breakfast was good and a nice bonus.

Poor Value

Don't often write reviews but feel the need to with this hotel. The fact that this is offered as a 4-star is misleading and makes a joke of the rating system. An extremely small room even for London's standards without A/C, fridge, kettle, clock, proper curtains and any improvements from 1970 except for the lift...which is brand new so hard to see where the 4 stars come from. Staff are pleasant, did say check in was 1pm and upon arrival was told it was 2pm. This was not that big an issue but still is misleading. Not good value for money.

Great location!

The step down and double doors to room # 212 is not good. Free wifi should be provided, at least for an hour. However, staff are very helpful.

Excellent location for winter wonderland

Staff where welcoming helpful on approach and throughout the stay, from hotel reception, breakfast staff, cleaners and bar staff. The bar could be better stocked but if there isn't a need.

Utterly uninspiring

This hotel was sold to me on the internet as a 4* deal, it is barely a 3*. The bathroom was miniscule, hot water was on-off-on when in use, the towels weren't changed despite leaving them on the floor on day 2, no shower gel provided, very tired 1970s décor, single glazing looking out onto a busy road, hence noisy until 1 AM every night, no tea/coffee making facilities. If you want a laugh just ask to use the ironing board (it comes in 3 separate pieces!!) I travel to London weekly for business / work and stay in a lot of hotels; this is one I wont be returning to. Really rather disappointing due to a complete lack of effort, with a little thought and financial outlay this could be a good hotel. I also heard other visitors complaining. There's is more I could say but I think you get the picture...

great location

One of the better hotels I have stayed in at Paddington, clean and comfortable and it has a lift. basic but adequate breakfast. However there was no jug/coffee supplied, this would have made it even better.

Improving Value

I have stayed at the Nayland a number of times over the last 10 years and it is steadily improving with redecoration, new lift and upgrading areas such as shower rooms etc. It is close to the mainline and underground Paddington Station and is an excellent location from which to get around the city. Parking is in short supply. The rooms can be quite small and/or narrow, but if you are out and about it may not be such a problem. Continental breakfast was OK, but they are still serving orange squash instead of orange juice. Overall excellent value for money when I stayed. I will go back again.
