Great Stay, Low Price

Staff was great; friendly, helpful. Room was a "little Small". Wonderful location across from Tube Station and Very close to Paddington Train Station. Plus short walk to Restaurants etc. Twenty steps to Hyde Park. Only disappointed in provided Breakfast. Was not what we have previously experienced as a "True" English breakfast. No meats, potatoes or Cheeses. They were all extra cost. However, nice stay.

London experience

Stayed at this hotel because it was recommended by friends otherwise we may have missed it. Great location- next to Hyde Park, train and bus stops, including the get on, get off version, wonderful old world charm, staff friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfortable, if a little worn, especially in the bathroom but noticed that renovation is occurring. Loved the peace of the rose garden after a day exploring London and all the little extras such as a welcoming open fire in the reception area. Will definitely stay again.

Home from home

Welcoming staff as always. Feel at home in this hotel. The location is excellent too. Try to avoid rooms at the front of the hotel - can be noisy - but overall the stay here is always a good one.

Ideal location

Location was ideal, only a few minutes' walk from Paddington station and just over the road from Lancaster Gate tube. Much better value than hotels just a short distance away at Marble Arch, and this included buffet breakfast. This is an old building and so there are some rough edges and meandering corridors but overall very good for what I wanted - somewhere to sleep and wash.

Charming hotel but I think we got its worst room

Good points: Lovely public areas (the 'Rose Garden' restaurant for the lovely breakfast is stunning), short but labyrinthine corridors, creaky old lift and bookcases in the corridors - a great antidote to the anonymous modern identikit hotels. Our room was enormous - it would almost have been a suite in another hotel - two armchairs, a fireplace, and a sizeable desk. Bad points: unfortunately our room was on the lower ground floor, and had a view of a brick wall. Talk about depressing! It was gloomy and freezing cold (fortunately the electric fire worked). Lack of double-glazing meant that we were very disturbed by traffic noise. Old-fashioned bathroom, wallpaper peeling in places - I read that some of the rooms had been refurbished, but ours is clearly on the waiting list! Would I stay here again - unfortunately not.

Fantastic run hotel across from Hyde park

Great for any reason. Staff are very pleasant and always helpful, still has a family run feel, it's cute and next to a Barclays bike stop for convenience across the park. Originally booked for 2 nights but booked a third because we were enjoying it. Breakfast is v good, continental at least. Seen a few non residents eating on a night which shows good good. Will certainly be back soon.

This is a pretty good hotel if

This is a pretty good hotel if you want a location beside Hyde Park and a tube station and you're not too fussy about having brand new decor and furniture. Main thing for me is, the sheets and towels were clean. Polite and helpful staff too. Big plus points for: free wifi, bath, breakfast included in what was a pretty good price for what seemed to be a fairly busy night in London's hotels. Big minus for: no tea/coffee-making in the room. Also minus for: tired building/decor, very cheap iron & ironing board.
