Was like a building site

I booked a single room and when I checked in I was told I was being upgraded to a queen size, I was very happy with this and thanked the receptionist. However when I got to my floor and followed the directions I walked into a building site, the walls were half painted, there were loose wires and ladders everywhere, paint pots, sheets and workmen working away. I thought I'd gone the wrong way but I hadn't. When I got to the room it was not a queen size, it was 2 single beds pushed together, and the gap between them meant they could not be used as a single bed. It was late and I just left it. I tried to connect to wifi but the signal was non existent, I assume they hadn't installed the wifi points yet as the electricians were still working. All in all it was not a good experience, I expect this is not the only negative review as when I was walking past reception the next day I heard someone complaining that his room was actually full of spare building equipment when he tried to get in. This is a terrible situation as I have stayed in the hotel twice before and had no issues, I'm not sure I'd stay again.

Good hotel with Shortcomings

On arrival at the hotel reception staff were helpful and professional. I ate in both the pizza restaurant on one day and the indian restaurant the following day. Both meals were very good. Standard of helots room was very good. The Leisure club is an extra cost and requires some modernisation and staff could do with some training in dealing with customers as they were not very professional. Hotel location very good but due to leisure club issues I would not rush back as the swimming pool was unattended and could do with a make over.

You get what you pay (too much) for

Let's start with the positives. Location is pretty handy ( very good if working / visiting Canary Wharf area ). Not a terrible hotel, contrary to other reviews my bed was comfy but overall pretty tired and a little depressing. Extremely dated and a bit grubby in places. My room has a big jacuzzi bath but I didn't feel inclined to stay in the bathroom any longer than necessary. Check in took far too long and they charge extra to use the gym. I paid £150 per night so charging extra for the facilities was a bit rude. I've seen it advertised at around £60 a night and at that price it's just about acceptable. I stay in London pretty much every week and this is way down the list and not somewhere I'd look to stay again.

Very rude duty manager

On 3rd Feb morning I called reception at 5:30am to ask for a taxi, also checked with the lady on the phone shall I leave my laptop in the room or take to their safe? As they displayed a notice in the room do not leave valuables in the room. So the lady went to check and informed me to bring it down and will cost me £5, but when I took down they told me no, I cannot leave it in the safe it's too small. I was in a hurry to go out, the duty manager came very rude told me they never will advise that and told me to take my laptop away, he doesn't want to discuss about it anymore! Never stay there again!!! Room is not clean, bath taps all broken, the list just going on.....

overall great location and good value for money, but tired

spacious building with so much potential, but sooooo tired - really needs a makeover> Didn't use the pool because the roof was peeling - that made me wonder if there were other problems. And at £4 a day on top of the bill, didn't like that. The only real downside was the cost of parking - I was there for 36 hours and it cost me £36, would have been more if I had used the car during that period - but no need, long live Docklands light railway!

Christmas spirit!!

There's only good things I have to say about this hotel! The location was very close to underground. Friendly staff specially the housekeeper lady who was very good at her job. My room was at the top floor and I had a exelend view. Although a couple who was traveling with me got a much smaller room but payed the same money. And that was the only negetive I have to sai.

Good, but needs a bit of TLC

The International was one of the first Docklands hotels we ever stayed in (several years ago). We liked it hen, and we like it now... except it is definitely showing signs of age. Our bedroom was clean and tidy - and recently decorated I think, so no problems there (except for low hanging chandelier that I kept hitting my head on). Oh, and the noisy neighbours - wish people would have more respect for others... especially late night and early morning. The hallways and public areas certainly look a bit tired now - and their "Friday's" bar was dreadful (no-one used it so they shut it up thankfully). Pity the Indian restaurant was out of action, as we would have liked to have tried that... but instead, we used the Italian, which ended up being excellent, and really good value for hotels of this nature. Didn't like the look of the main restaurant - too much of a canteen feel (and smell)... but it was very popular with lots of other guests. Bar was quite expensive - but they do tend to be don't they. It's in a great position for Canary Wharf underground (both Jubilee and DLR) - so within half an hour you can be right in the middle of London, either Bank (DLR), or Waterloo (Jubilee) then up to Leicester Square (Northern). Didn't like the shock of paying £42 for two nights parking - absolute rip-off. A quick glance as you entered made you think it was £15 a day, but they catch you on the actual times you go in and out. Took the edge off a little bit. All in all though, for the price we paid through H0tel C1ub, an excellent deal. Thanks... David

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Turn right out of hotel, walk under the big roundabout (careful of traffic), take second exit, past PWC offices, and on the right is a Wetherspoon (Ledger Building). Cheaper drinks and food if you are short of a few bob.
