Victoria station hotels
London’s Victoria Station has been a central London underground terminus since 1859. Although it opened during the Victorian era, it’s actually named after the nearby Victoria Street, not the Queen. Earnest, the namesake from Oscar Wilde’s play The Importance of Being Earnest, was found as a child abandoned in Victoria Station.
Don’t be lost like Earnest! Victoria is one of the busiest stations in the London Underground system, luckily crowd-control measures keep you out of dangerous situations. This can obviously cause some delays. Upgrades are being planned and London hopes to have them completed by 2018.
- Grab a snack or a small meal at one of many food and drink outlets at the station and settle in to people-watch and observe the juxtaposition of historic architecture with the modern additions to the station.
- Need a gift or a few groceries for dinner? Shop for clothing, groceries, music, stationery, gifts, and more at the Victoria station shops in the enormous main concourse.
- Don’t forget to venture upstairs into London proper to visit the art galleries and restaurants aboveground at the Victoria Station tube stop!
Victoria Station is a hub of London underground tube travel. A main connection point, it is busy most days of the week, and especially at peak commuting hours, hence the crowding issues and delays. The shops and food outlets can somewhat offset annoyance from delays. If the crowds are too much, trains from the Circle, District, and Victoria lines change at Victoria Station in the heart of London, close to the Thames and the city of Westminster. There is car parking available, as well as parking for bicycles. Parking can be booked online so you are guaranteed a spot when you arrive.
