One of the oldest sections in London, Southwark is a borough situated southeast of the city centre. Southwark is an interesting place to visit, mainly because of its history. An original ancient borough in Surrey County, it is the site where the capital’s arts and entertainment industry first flourished. The borough’s former theatres, like the Rose and the Hope, were the prime venues for Shakespearean plays during the 16th century.
