Portobello Road hotels
Portobello Road, London's famous shopping street is renowned for housing the world's largest antiques market, the Portobello Road Market. The road itself runs through the fashionable district of Notting Hill, and its two mile length is consistently packed with shoppers hunting for unique bargains. Portobello Road has been a market area since the 19th century, when it started as a fresh food market, and its Saturday street market attracts visitors from across the globe. Its appeal has increased with numerous screen appearances, including Disney's classic film Bedknobs & Broomsticks and the Hugh Grant comedy Notting Hill.
- Go and see a film at Portobello Road's Electric Cinema, one of the oldest working cinemas in the U.K. (dating back to 1910), and one of the first buildings to be built specifically for showing big screen adventures.
- Get an authentic London experience by haggling with a market trader over the price.
- Enjoy lunch from the varied food stalls that are part of the Portobello Road Market, with lots of fresh London produce to try.
Transport options to the London district of Notting Hill are numerous. The underground tube train system has continuous trains from all areas of the city, and Portobello Road itself runs past both the Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill Gate stops on the underground. There are also a wide range of buses that stop by the market from various points across the city. These are affordable and allow some sightseeing on the go. There are very few parking opportunities around Notting Hill (and what is available is expensive), so public transport should be utilized where possible.
