Portobello Market hotels
Portobello Market, which is appropriately located on Portobello Road, is one of the largest outdoor shopping markets in London. At this open-air plaza, vendors from all over the country can bring their new and used wares for sale to the public. There is literally something for everyone at Portobello Market, including antiques, fresh produce, new arrivals, and clothing. The market got its start in the mid-1980s when an antique dealers association was established in the area and, today, shoppers from all over come to browse the shops and stalls that are open every weekend.
- Visit the Antiques section, the original focus of the Portobello Market, to get a look at the vintage wares in the Chelsea Gallery and the Silver Fox Arcade.
- Grab a hot meal at one of the Portobello Market’s many dining areas, including the food vans that sit on the street, the eateries in this neighbourhood, and the stalls inside the market.
- Attend the annual Portobello Film Festival, which is one of London’s famous independent film events, to take in one the new movies and features released each year.
Arriving at one of London’s five airports, Gatwick or Heathrow International Airport being the most popular, travellers can hire a taxi-cab to drive directly to the Portobello Market via Portobello Road or Westbourne Grove. From anywhere in the city itself, getting to Portobello Market is particularly easy for guests who travel on the tube. The Notting Hill Gate Station is located just five minutes from the market, which makes it simple for subway riders to reach the area from any point on the Underground system. Using the bus system will bring visitors within walking distance to this street market.
