Park Lane hotels
Back in the 18th century, Park Lane was one of the most popular residential areas in London. Still lined with magnificent mansions, the road is also home to well-known five-star hotels such as The Dorchester. Since being widened in the 1960s, Park Lane has become one of the busiest roads in London. In 2004, the Animals in War Memorial was established in memory of the many animals that have served and died for England. Running from Hyde Park Corner to Marble Arch over a distance of 1.2 kilometres, Park Lane is one of the most famous routes in the capital.
- Take a stroll down to the Hyde Park Corner end of Park Lane and visit the splendid Aspley House, the former residence of the Duke of Wellington and originally known as Number 1 London, which may give you an idea of its significance.
- View the modern gates at the southern end of Park Lane in London, erected in honour of the Queen Mother.
- Listen to the individuals at Speakers’ Corner taking advantage of the opportunity for open-air public speaking on any subject within the confines of the law.
Aside from on foot (which is always the best way to see a city), the underground is the easiest way to get around London, and there are stations at either end of Park Lane. Hyde Park Corner is on the Piccadilly Line, whilst Marble Arch is a stop on the Central Line. There are NCP car parks at the nearby Hilton Hotel and Chesterfield House if you brave driving a car through the centre of the capital. If buses are your preference, there are numerous routes to Park Lane, including the 10, 16, 36, 73, 74, 82, 137, and 414.
