Loughton is a town that is situated in the Epping Forest district of Essex, about 21 kilometres fro Charing Cross in London, England. The Epping Forest and three conservation areas that make the town one of the greenest places around London dominate the area. Loughton has been continually inhabited since the 11th century although there is evidence of people living there as early as 500 BC. It remained mostly rural until the late 17th century when a road connected it to London. Now the town is known as a centre for the arts with many theatres, musical venues, and museums.
- Watch the famous St. John’s Choir, along with well-known soloists and symphonies at the St. John’s Church, one of the top music venues in the town that attracts music lovers from all over London.
- Head to the Loughton Library, where you will find the National Jazz Archive, a rich collection of photographs and memorabilia that tell the rich history of jazz in the London area.
- Watch an exciting match of the Loughton Cricket club and you will see top players compete in the Shepherd Neame Essex League that has existed since the 19th century.
London has some of the best public transportation in the world and the town of Loughton is well connected to it. The Loughton Tube Station is located on the Central Line of the London Underground and you can also get off at the Debden Station, also located in the quaint town. There are also many bus routes that go from central London to Loughton, and you can catch buses from the town that go to destinations in the south. The city has many natural areas that can be explored on foot and hiking is one of the town’s most popular activities.
