Lancaster Gate hotels
London’s refined Lancaster Gate is a must-visit for lovers of architecture and old-world charm. This tony development in Bayswater was developed in the mid-19th century on the edge of Kensington Gardens with rows of stately Georgian houses. The area takes its name from an entrance to the gardens known as the Lancaster Gate and was planned around the Christ Church, which was built in the 1850s. Lancaster Gate is now a mix of expensive residences and local restaurants and pubs. The Football Association had its headquarters here, but have since relocated to Wembley Stadium.
- Check out the spire and tower of the Christ Church, the only remaining parts of the original church and the most easily noticed sights in Lancaster Gate.
- Browse artwork by London locals at the street market held next to Hyde Park on the weekends.
- Explore the Speakers Corner and the Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park, or stroll through Kensington Gardens to the Kensington Palace for some London history.
Lancaster Gate is near Central London, and being right on the underground line, it’s an easy hop to Paddington, Picadilly, and the major London attractions. The Lancaster Gate tube station and Paddington mainline station/Heathrow Express are conveniently close by. The bus lines run immediately in front of the Royal Lancaster Hotel with clear schedules, and make it easy to get to the rest of town if you don’t want to take the tube! Lancaster Gate is immediately north of Kensington Gardens, and it’s a pleasant walk to the shops on famous Oxford Street and to the West End.
