Knightsbridge - Mayfair hotels
Mayfair is a culturally rich and colourful district of London that was named after a two week long fair that was held annually in May there from 1686 up until 1764, when it was subsequently banned and relocated multiple times to finally end up at Fair Field in Bow. Visitors will delight in this interesting history, as well as all the other prestige and entertainment that comes with it (it’s the most expensive property in the British version of Monopoly).Whether shopping or taking a tour, travellers will find themselves completely enthralled during their visit to the Mayfair section of London.
- Visit Grosvenor Square, home to the American Embassy and a statue of American President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and named after the wealthy Grosvenor family, who owned much of the land where Mayfair is located.
- Tour the home of baroque composer George Frideric Handel, converted into Handel House Museum, and just for contrast be sure to notice the house next door that was home to Jimi Hendrix when he lived in Mayfair to begin his career.
- Enjoy a day of browsing at the shops along Oxford Street and Bond Street before taking in a show and a drink at Curzon.
Visitors to Mayfair will typically arrive by tube from one of the neighbouring districts. The tube is the most efficient way to reach Oxford Street in the heart of Mayfair, but plenty of travellers find it fitting to hire cars and taxis or take buses. Trains can also be taken to nearby Marylebone Station. There are plenty of buses available for exploring London's Mayfair District, and many will find that walking can be an entirely viable option, as the majority of interesting attractions are conveniently within a 15 minute walk of any tube station.
