Kilburn is one of the many residential neighbourhoods in the Greater London Area, known largely for its amount of local shops and pubs. For many years, most of the residents in Kilburn were Irish, but the neighbourhood is becoming more diverse, and many residents are from eastern bloc countries with a healthy smattering of Middle Eastern influence. If you’re looking for a house in the neighbourhood, there are a number of terraced houses that are available to rent or to tour on a nice walk. Kilburn’s quaint residencies, hometown pubs, and hole-in-the-wall shops make any walk down the block like a treasure hunt. If you’re staying in London proper, or on a grand tour of the whole area, Kilburn should definitely be a pit-stop.
- Enjoy a pint at some of the most well-known pubs near the Kilburn tube station like North London Tavern, the Black Lion, and Brondesage, which features an affordable vegetarian menu.
- Take the kids to Grange Park with its playgrounds and tennis courts—be there in July to see the exciting Kilburn Festival.
- Haggle prices with the street traders and merchants outside of the many inexpensive shops that make up most of Kilburn’s diverse society.
The Kilburn tube station provides quick, safe, and easy access to any area of London, with lines going into the city centre quite frequently. The Kilburn Park trains go around the city every 15 minutes, and at least seven bus routes serve this area of London, making it easy to get into London to shop or for an evening out—no part of the city is out of bounds. Aside from public transport, any adventuring traveller would do well to explore Kilburn and its surrounding areas by foot, seeing as a tube station is always close to get you home. From Heathrow Airport, ride the tube to Kilburn station or take the British Rail to Brondesbury.
