Hyde Park Corner
Hyde Park Corner is a famous London roundabout where several of the city's major roads intersect, including Park Lane, Piccadilly, Knightsbridge, and Constitution Hill. Its centrepiece is the stately Constitution Arch, which is a memorial to the Duke of Wellington. Hyde Park Corner is one of the gateways near Buckingham Palace, where one may see the famous Changing of the Guard at 11:30 each morning from May through July. There are also many fine monuments adorning the area surrounding Hyde Park Corner, including the statue of Byron, the Austrian War Memorial, and the Royal Artillery Memorial. Be sure to visit St. Margaret's Church at Parliament Square.
- Explore the many galleries of the Palace of Westminster, the Houses of Parliament, which are open to the public when the Houses are in session.
- Enjoy some of the most important London landmarks along with a pleasant stroll through Westminster via a free walking tour that starts from the Duke of Wellington Arch on Hyde Park Corner.
- Admire important paintings from the British, Flemish and American schools, as well as many antiques and sculptures in the Apsley House, the first London home to the Duke of Wellington.
Heathrow Airport is twenty-six kilometres from Hyde Park Corner via the M4 Motorway. The Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect rail lines are the fastest transportation options from the airport, but they are also more expensive than other modes. Travellers with smaller budgets can make the trip in less than an hour via the Underground on the Piccadilly Line or by using one of the several bus lines that serve Hyde Park Corner. The London Underground, also called “the tube,” is one of the best ways to get around.
