High Street Kensington
One of the chief commercial centres of Greater London, High Street Kensington is a vibrant, affluent shopping district located in West London, filled with upscale shops and boutiques. Although the famous department stores Pontings, Barkers, and Derry and Toms have closed, their Art Deco buildings remain architecturally impressive and now house newer retail stores. The district also features the largest rooftop garden in Europe, which is a big attraction among visitors. Easily accessible via the London Tube, High Street Kensington is a great stop for avid shoppers hoping to visit one of the more historic commercial centres within the city.
- Visit Our Lady of Victories on High Street Kensington, a Roman Catholic church designed by George Goldie, that once served as the Pro Cathedral of England.
- Explore the Kensington Roof Gardens. This must-see London attraction includes three types of gardens with flamingo statues, a clubhouse, and a restaurant.
- Shop and dine at London's Tie Rack and Waterstone’s boutique, then enjoy the flavours of the city at Balans and Aubaine, and then enjoy chocolaty delights at Hotel Chocolat.
High Street Kensington is easily accessible via the public transportation system of London. The area is serviced by the High Street Kensington tube station, which falls in Travelcard Zone1, and therefore requires more expensive tickets for most journeys. If planning to take the bus, visitors should board bus route numbers 9, 10, 49, 52, 72 or 452. Night bus routes operating in the area include the N9, N28, N31 and N52. Coaches that operate within the district include route numbers 701/702. Upon arrival within the shopping district, most area attractions are within convenient walking distance.
