Hammersmith - Fulham hotels
Located just west of posh Chelsea and just south of equally posh Kensington, Fulham is attractive district in London, England that’s charming without putting on airs. For many years this area was home to the residence of the Bishop of London, called the Fulham Palace, which is now unoccupied but still stands in all its Tudor glory open for visitors. Tourists love to wander about the lovely tree-lined streets off of Munster Road affectionately nicknamed “Munstervillage,” taking in the historic Victorian houses. Munster Road itself is lined with cosy coffee bars, noveau shops selling healthy organic products, and wonderful local restaurants.
- Visit the fascinating Fulham Palace Museum to get a taste for the royal life.
- See the artefacts and architecture; take in a fine art exhibition or a craft workshop at the non-profit Studio 106 Art Gallery on Munster Road.
- Stock up on fresh organic fruits and vegetables at the Fulham weekend market on North End Road, and don’t miss the local cheese and pastries either.
The Fulham district is one of the more challenging districts in London to travel around. Fulham lies on the District underground metro line, with stations at Putney Bridge, Parsons Green and Fulham Broadway. Rush hour traffic into and out of the district is very busy, both by car and by train. Once in the district, you can walk about the streets without difficulty. Be careful driving on days where football games are scheduled – with two local teams and very devoted fans, traffic gets very congested. It is usually best to avoid driving on game days- check the newspaper or ask at the front desk of the hotel for this information.
