Fleet Street hotels
once the heart of the British media, Fleet Street remains one of the famous streets in London, now concentrating on investment businesses and law firms. This street has seen a number of famous people come and go, including Samuel Johnson, Edmund Burke, and Charles Lamb. So much history and legend has happened on this street, like its inception in the literature of Charles Dickens. Although the last press has closed its Fleet Street offices years ago, this is still a prime place to see while touring London. It’s filled with barristers offices and banks and of course the eye-catching architecture remains the same, so take time to see Fleet Street while in London.
- Lift a pint at Ye Old Cheshire Cheese where some seriously thirsty authors like Dickens and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle once frequented.
- See the memorials dedicated to journalists who have been killed covering skirmishes at St. Bride's Church, the church dedicated to journalists.
- Attend services at the Temple Church, which dates from the eleventh century and was once the domain of the Knights Templar.
The easiest way to Fleet Street is by taking the tube, the London Underground. There are several stations which terminate near Fleet Street like Temple, Blackfriars, St. Paul’s, Mansion, and Monument: all are a leisurely walk away from this famous street. There is also no shortage of bus routes that will take you straight there as well, with taxis abundantly present. If you don't mind the traffic and can navigate your way successfully, renting a car is a good option, but of course parking is a bit of a challenge.
