Dulwich Picture Gallery
The Dulwich Picture Gallery of London holds the record of being the first public art gallery in England, and was inaugurated in 1811. The original collection, which took art dealers, Noel Desenfans and Sir Francis Bourgeois five years to amass, provides a perfect introduction to European Old Master artwork. Paintings found in the Dulwich Picture Gallery include important masterpieces by Poussin, Rembrandt and Murillo. Currently there are about three hundred and fifty pieces of art on permanent display, as well as a number of exhibition items loaned from other parts of the world.
