Baker Street hotels
For fans of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, a visit to Baker Street while visiting London is a must. Baker Street is to be found in the Marylebone district of the City of Westminster in London and is named after the man who designed the neighbourhood, William Baker, during the 18th century. What was once an exclusive residential area has turned into one of the more successful commercial districts in London famous for being the location of the Beatles’ Apple Boutique, Despite the fact that 221B Baker Street never existed, a plaque with that address was installed at the Sherlock Holmes Museum, located further down the street. Baker Street has been immortalized not just in fiction but in songs as well.
- Walk through Regent’s Park, which is near Baker Street and one of the most famous Royal Parks in London.
- Visit the London Zoo near Baker Street, which is the oldest scientific zoo in the world, and houses everything from big cats to penguins, gorillas and butterflies.
- Walk around the corner from Baker Street to Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, which is the home to many uncannily realistic likenesses of famous people from all eras and countries.
Passengers on the London Underground should get off at the Baker Street station, which is known as one of the oldest continually running train stations in the world. Once at street level, Baker Street is best explored by foot so that visitors can stop at the many sights along the way. A popular activity is to take walking tours of the area, which has been home to many famous people, fictional or otherwise. For those with abundant energy, bicycles can be hired, but people should be wary of the sometimes-heavy traffic in the area. London buses will also take the visitor to and from Baker Street to other locations around the city.
