Aldwych Theatre hotels
More than a hundred years old, Aldwych Theatre is located in the West End of London in the city of Westminster. W.G.R. Sprague designed the theatre’s structure, ornamenting its walls with ornate decorations, which he meant to imitate a Georgian style. Since it first opened its doors in 1905, the Aldwych Theatre has been home to some of London’s most popular productions, including the Royal Shakespeare Company’s performances of the 1960’s. Now, this historic theatre hosts an array of famous Broadway-style plays and musicals, making it one of the most visited theatres in London.
- Go to Aldwych Theatre for a performance of Top Hat, a musical based on the famous film starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, which is now one of the hottest theatre tickets in London.
- Take a tour of the historic Aldwych Theatre, including the stage and backstage areas; but beware—the theatre is said to be haunted by the ghosts of famous London actors.
- See a beloved film come to life on the stage as you watch a production of Dirty Dancing, one of the most popular shows at Aldwych Theatre since it first premiered in 2006.
Aldwych Theatre is located in the West End theatre district of London and can be reached by a number of methods. The London Underground has two nearby stops, the closest being the Charing Cross station, located just a short distance away. Theatregoers who do not wish to use public transportation can drive, but parking is limited, so it is better to take one of London’s famous black taxis. Aldwych Theatre is situated in a lovely neighbourhood with quiet streets that can be fun to explore by foot. Many of the hotels on Aldwych have free, direct transfers from Gatwick Airport.
