Adelphi Theatre hotels
London’s historic Adelphi Theatre on the Strand, erected in 1806, has enjoyed many incarnations in its 200 years. Founding visionary Jane Scott and her father John assembled their own troupe and produced plays, pantomimes and musicals. From 1837 to 1845, Charles Dickens packed the house with his plays. In 1930, the Adelphi Theatre opened with a rather dapper makeover in the design theme of the moment. The theatre has since operated continuously, with another freshening up when purchased in 1993 by the Really Useful Group, led by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The American musical, Chicago, played here for nine years.
