Liverpool Chinatown hotels
The edifice Chinese Arch built on Nelson Street confronts tourists of the heritage tour they will be having in Liverpool’s Chinatown. Designed by craftsmen of China, it is decorated with lacquer, ceramics, paint and gold leaf. If the visitors develop weary foot after roaming around Chinatown, two pavilions (beside the arch) comes to the rescue, which is set along ornamental gardens. The Chinatown is spread over Berry Street, Upper Duke Street and Nelson Street.
On the eve of Chinese New Year, the community gathers on the streets to celebrate and worship their deities. It is also a time when fore fathers and ancestors are fondly remembered and the families gathered give thanks for their blessings. Red packets of money, known as Lai See or Hung Bao, and firecrackers add fun and excitement to the Chinese New Year celebration. Lion dancers perform to scare away evil spirits.
Other than festivals bustles the area with life as it involves tradesmen and tourists. Liverpool Chinatown Marketplace buzzes with superstores, herbalists, restaurants, and gift shops. Restaurants like Golden Yuen Restaurant, Hong Kong Garden, New Capital Restaurant, Orient Restaurant, and Yuet Ben Restaurant attract dinners due to the succulent aroma and attractive neon sign boards.
Visitors who are interested in collecting herbs, artifacts and gifts can visit Hondo supermarket or Guangming Company. Little stalls cramped in these have a lot to attract the tourist’s fancy.
