Harrogate is lovely! So many boutique shops and nice restaurants. A trip to Bettys tea rooms is also well worth the queueing!

Harrogate General Information

Harrogate is a vintage spa town of the first order. The North Yorkshire gem’s status as a curative centre dates back to the late 16th century, when a well-travelled squire, already familiar with the Walloon town of Spa in Belgium, stumbled upon a mineral spring by happenstance. The rest, as they say, is spa town history.

Buttressed by the Inclosure Acts, another two centuries would pass however, before Harrogate was developed with any swiftness and purpose. As a result, the most notable landmarks in the city of 70,000 plus people do indeed date back to the Georgian and Victorian eras. During that halcyon age and well into the early 20th century as well, Harrogate was a destination for the aristocracy and élite of Europe. Today, the spa town still draws countless therapy-seekers and fanatics of the legendary Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate tearooms. Superb points of interest to target include the Royal Pump Room Museum, Harlow Carr Botanical Gardens, Mercer Art Gallery and obviously, the Harrogate Turkish Baths. The city also serves as a popular gateway to Yorkshire Dales National Park and The Lake District.
