The Place Rooms

STANDARD - DOUBLE
With a bit more floor space than the city doubles above and rooms from the first floor upwards, many (but not all) of these rooms have lovely views to the rear whilst a few others overlook the street. You can request either and we will try our best to allocate your preference. Decorated with style and fully equipped, the standard double suits most needs for a city break. Room includes egyptian cotton sheets, ensuite bathroom, flat screen TV, WiFi and welcome tea tray.
STANDARD - TWIN
Situated on the lower ground floor, and most with a fairly decent amount of floor space. These fully equipped rooms are ideal for sharing with friends. Most of the twins are to the lower front of the building. Room includes egyptian cotton sheets, ensuite bathroom, flat screen TV, WiFi and welcome tea tray.
SUPERIOR - DOUBLE
With a good mixture of street views and Fife views these rooms are towards the luxury end of our stock. Most of this room type can be twins or doubles (we assume a double unless you specifically request a twin) Lots of space, some with superb views of Fife (subject to availability) Aimed at the traveller coming for a special occasion, or for a longer stay, or for a romantic break or simply for those who just want that bit more space and luxury. Room includes egyptian cotton sheets, ensuite bathroom, flat screen TV, WiFi and welcome tea tray.
LUXURY - SUITE
These are seriously big rooms aimed primarily at honeymoon guests and romantic breaks. Superbly decorated and finished with good lounging space, large televisions, superb bathrooms and big comfortable beds. Room includes egyptian cotton sheets, ensuite bathroom, large flat screen TV, WiFi and welcome tea tray.
SINGLE - ROOM
Small rooms tucked away in various parts of the hotel. Single bed, functional, comfortable and cheap. What more can we say! Room includes egyptian cotton sheets, ensuite bathroom, flat screen TV, WiFi and welcome tea tray.
COSY CITY DOUBLE - ROOM
Our cosy double rooms are aimed at those who simply want to drop their bags, explore the city and come back to sleep in comfort. The floor space is limited, although the rooms are still fully equipped, comfortable and decorated to a high standard. The beds are standard 4'6" doubles. Most of these rooms are on on the lower ground floor, away from any traffic noise, and they are naturally lit by our guest controlled electric velux windows. Room includes egyptian cotton sheets, ensuite bathroom, flat screen TV, WiFi and welcome tea tray.

Great location for the Fringe

We stayed in one of the top floor rooms during the Fringe Festival in 2015 and the room was lovely - very small, but cozy. Modern amenities, quite a spacious bathroom, great shower and a beautiful view toward the water and over Edinburgh. 5 minutes walking distance to Old Town/Royal Mile/Princes St shopping and lots more. The light rail from the airport stopped directly across the road from the hotel, so getting there and back was an absolute breeze. Staff were lovely and helpful.

Winter Trip

So my trip overall was pretty rough. It started off good but unfortunately I came down with what I later would find out was pneumonia so I was stuck in my hotel room for most of my trip. The hotel was very nice and centrally located. It was near several bars and walking distance to Edinburgh castle so that was wonderful. What was lacking was for the price I paid I thought the room would just be slightly larger. It was designed for 1 person and while it looked nice it felt like a large office cubicle more than a hotel room. To get to the shower I had to step into the bathroom and then close the door to get to the shower. The hot water only lasted maybe 3 minutes before it started cooling down fast. The Wi-Fi was just terrible and I defaulted back to LTE on my cellphone very quickly because I could barely open my e-mail let alone anything else. On one of my last days there I had their breakfast as I couldn't make it out of the hotel because of my absolute exhaustion for walking more than a few minutes and I have to say the food was wonderful and was a great comfort. I would not recommend this hotel stay for a single person who will book the single occupancy room that I booked but from what I saw in their larger rooms they seemed to be much more accommodating. I just expected a bit more bang for my buck I guess.

Edinburgh

Very smart small hotel. Good, clean, tidy room with a wonderful view but it was at the top of 77 steps and there is no lift. No blind on bathroom window which is a bit disconcerting at night. On a very busy thoroughfare so it is not possible to stop a car outside to unload cases. Within walking distance of railway station.

City Break

The hotel is excellently located if you want to get around Edinburgh. The website very accurately describes the hotel (i.e. there's no lift as it's a listed building etc) so worth reading before going. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was large for a centrally located property. Very clean. Breakfast was pretty good (though no bacon, what's that about...) both in the buffet area and ordered. Only one gripe really (that wont affect most people travelling though). It was strangely warm when we visited Scotland and due to some bizarre Scottish law the traditional sash window was on a limiter that allowed about an inch and half of opening. A fan was provided but really affected my pregnant other half. as most of the year it's not that warm, it wont affect most people though. Otherwise, the stay was enjoyable and we would definitely stay again. Thank You!

Great location

Hotel was very nice, clean and location excellent. Staff very helpful. Beds clean and comfy. Pity other guests are inconsiderate! Female above us came in early hours running about jumping on bed. Clearly dont get out much. I was just about to call reception when it stopped. Apart from that......perfect stay!

Business trip

Arrived late and didn't get to see much but the lighting and decor is fab. Staff very friendly and my room was a top attic room - it's a hike the only bit I HATED was the bathroom had NO frosted glass blinds or curtains and its quite high but as I could see into others I felt very uncomfortable using it with the lights on or in the daytime. It's so weird a hotel like this would do that and for that I won't be back which is a shame!
