The perfect stay in Edinburgh

From the moment we walked in, we were in awe of the beautiful apartment, with its lavish crown molding and large windows, blended with modern appliances and contemporary furniture. It was a trek from city center and princes street, but we came to really enjoy our daily stroll. It was the perfect way to be introduced to a foreign city. The staff were more than accommodating and exceeded all expectations with fresh towels, made beds, and a sparkly clean kitchen daily. Please stay here, I sincerely believe you will have no regrets.

Upscale BUT...Could do better...

I stayed before and indeed have been in the apartment I was allocated before. Good quality fittings, the bed arrangement is OK for 1 and for a couple but you need to be agile to get into it as it is essentially housed in a mezzanine created over the shower room. This trip overall I was less impressed. Merchiston is an upscale neighourhood but in the middle of the night I was wakened 3 times by yelling in the street. Problem with no front desk is that while yelling didn't merit a 999 call it would have been nice to be able to have someone call the local cops. That might be a passing thing. BUT there definitely is an issue with noise pollution in the building so you might find it hit and miss if you seek a quiet rest. I am used to a lot of quiet at home so that also may play a apart, I admit. But this is an old townhouse cut up into apartments. When the folks upstairs run a shower, you know it. A South Asian family arrived late and must have wakened anyone who had just got to sleep. There are quite large gaps under the room doors. Again, not really much to be done. BUT what annoyed me was being roused at 10am (checkout is 11) by housekeeping to see if anyone was in the room and then the housekeepers conducting full volume conversations in the hallway, probably intended to ensure any late sleepers were up and out. That was something the management can and should control. These apartments are a good base for business and leisure travellers, handy for transport and with nice local shops and bars/restaurants and walking distance from the historic centre. Sort out the glitches I encountered and they are ideal.
