Good value if discounted

Staff were professional though not always warm and friendly, amenities and location were good, but definitely not worth the rack rate - issues included the carpet which needed a more thorough clean (prior guests' hair and bobby pins on the floor), frayed edges on all the towels, which also seemed quite thin and worn out, noisy a/c and toilet, water from shower spilling out of cubicle (poor design)

Nearly great

Lovely comfortable room but there were a few niggles: The kettle didn't work unless you stood a vase on top of it to force the contact with the base. The external 'phone line didn't work - had to go through reception to make a call every time. The Wi-Fi only worked intermittently in the desk area of the room. There was an 'honesty bar'. Nice in some ways but would expect more faclities in a hotel like this. Basically, all minor stuff, but this is a premium-priced hotel.....

Fantastic city break

Arrived quite late and staff member was very helpful. We were advised to pre book breakfast as it was at a reduced price if we did so. Breakfast was lovely and very good value. Overall a very comfortable stay and will definitely return should we ever return to Edinburgh.

Perfect weekend

I looked into hotels in Edinburgh for both convenience and luxury, and found both in the Glasshouse. Situated as central to the town as you could hope for, everything about the stay was perfect. The room was spacious, bright, and spotless; the staff courteous and friendly; the option of breakfast in bed was an absolute treat; and a slight problem with a misplaced bag was dealt with quickly. I would love to go back again, as soon as I can!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Doric Tavern on Market Street served the most perfect Scottish fare at very reasonable prices - I highly recommend the traditional cullen skink, followed by haggis, neeps and tatties!

Wow was blown away with this Hotel. Everything about it was luxurious. Staff are excellent and can not do enough for you. The honesty bar in the snug is a brilliant addition as well. Superb location in the heart of the city centre with plenty of attractions nearby. Highly recomend.

Anniversary treat

Our stay at the hotel was so that we could go to the playhouse next door for our wedding anniversary. My husband is visually impaired so I wanted something that was close to the playhouse. It could not have been better. We were blown away by the attentive staff, the luxury of the room and the general relaxed feeling of the hotel. I would definately stay there again and will be recommeding the Glasshouse to all my friends.

Glasshouse Hotel - august 2012

We stayed at this hotel on the dates above on a room only basis as our base for our trip to the world famous Tattoo. On arrival we where greeted by Andrew on reception who was very welcoming and asked if we had been to Edinburgh before and supplied us with a map. We had arrived early due to an early morning flight from Luton, but this was not seen as a problem and we where checked in and our luggage stored whilst we went off for lunch. On return the room was ready and our bags where already in the room. The room was large and basically divided in to three sections - A small lounge/office area with views out the front of the building, The bed and storage area - masses of wardrobe and drawer space! including trouser press and ironing board, complimentary slippers, a dressing gown and umbrella, well stocked mini bar and snacks - although a bit pricey - £5 for a jar of jelly beans, mini safe and the usual tea and coffee supplies and the bathroom with large walk in shower cubicle, bath, and well stocked complimentary toiletries. There was a large supply of luxury towels. The room to start with was a bit warm but when we found the controls we where able to set it to our liking. The only small problem with the room was that the mirrors where not positioned correctly in relation to the sockets . - There is a horizontal mirror positioned next to the plugs and a vertical full length mirror further along the wall - unfortunately for the first couple of days my lovely lady had to stand on tip toe to dry her hair to see in the horizontal mirror until we worked out a way of the hairdryer cord reaching to the vertical mirror. There is a turn down service in the evenings where the maids come and turn down your bed and deliver a complimentary bottle of mineral water. There is a large lounge with an honesty bar which was well stocked and the roof garden would be lovely to sit in on a summers' evening. We did pay for breakfast once and because we pre-booked it we where given a £5 discount. Food ranged from cereals to cold meats to kippers or full scottish breakfast. The staff where always pleasant and always happy to help from the maids to the management. One well kept secret that is not advertised anywhere in the hotel blurb is that there are two internet connected computers on the mezzanine floor for residents use. I only found out when I asked where the nearest internet cafe was as I needed to check my e-mails If you are on a room only basis there are plenty of places in the next door Omni Centre to obtain breakfast. All in all a great central place to stay in Edinburgh that I would highly recommend.

Oasis in the heart of Edinburgh

Luxurious hotel. The front facade is old fashioned and traditional. Behind that, everything is modern and luxurious. Welcoming staff. Great room with plenty of space. Lovely bathroom and lots of nice toiletries. A nice small bottle of Oban whisky was left in the room. Fantastic. The bed was really comfortable. And big!

We stayed for two nights in February

We stayed for two nights in February 2011 at the Glasshouse paying £165 for a 'Deluxe room 1 -Queen". For quality and location this hotel scores very highly. The only downside is that for this price one gets little other than the room. Breakfast and broadband are extra. To be honest breakfast was not an issue (The Frankie & Benny's restaurant in the cinema complex next door is perfectly good and well-priced), but for a hotel of this calibre broadband should be free. Although everything they have is of the best standard, the Glasshouse lacks some facilities that some may expect, such as pool and spa etc. However, all things considered this is probably one of the finest hotels in Edinburgh (and I've stayed in a few).

On arrival we were met and welcomed

On arrival we were met and welcomed by the entrance. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. We were shown to our room which was of a very good standard. The outlook over the garden space and carton hill was very pleasant, toiletries in the room nice and the room itself separated into a clothes, bathroom, sleeping and sitting area. We had a drink from the honesty bar which was a special touch and a wonderful breakfast in our room. Edinburgh itself is a beautiful city. We enjoyed a lovely few days at the glasshouse and would certainly return.
