Nice hotel.

It is a nice comfortable hotel with good facilities. Short walk to city centre attractions. Be sure to book your breakfast the day before otherwise the price doubles. Good buffet breakfast though. Plenty of choice, open until 10 and kept us going all day.

Great stay!

This hotel had it all. Great location and within walking distance of everything we wanted to do. Breakfast was a delight. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were very nice and readily offered whatever assistance we needed. They delivered all this at a reasonable price. We will stay there again on our next trip.

Go to castle on a non-weekend day. Also, if there on a Saturday, skip hotel food and head to the farmers market and sample everything. On the way to,the castle.

Good hotel for visiting the Castle

The hotel, about 10mins walk from Princess Street and the Castle, has a bright lobby with adjacent bar and restaurant. The room was large clean and comfortable with a seperate toilet and bathroom with shower and bath. The breakfast is selfservice with plenty of choice. There is also a pool and gym in the basement that is bright and airy. This makes a good base for exploring the city with everything within walking distance. There are several bus stops just outside.

Good for overnight stay in heart of Edinburgh

We arrived late at night as we had been at a wedding. The staff were helpful and friendly and seemed to have to both man the reception desk and also the bar in the residents lounge. Our keycards didn't work (3 of them# and eventually my husband had to go back to reception and get a member of staff to open the door for us. The room was very clean and the bed extremely comfortable however, we were very disappointed with the fragility of the fittings in the bathroom #we could only fill the bath with the shower fitment as the device to switch between shower and bath appeared broken#. We had an excellent nights sleep. Breakfast in the morning could have been better; there was no bread for the toaster #we had toasted french loaf instead which was lovely#, the bacon was beige, under cooked and unappetising and the fried eggs were solid #I think it would have been better if, like other hotels we've stayed in, there was a chef on hand to cook the eggs on demand). The tea and coffee were lovely and presented well in individual pots. I think that the ingredients for breakfast should have been locally sourced, that might have made for a tastier breakfast.

This is the 3rd Novotel I have

This is the 3rd Novotel I have stayed at. This 1 is far below in quality. Booked a superior room for 3 nights, cost between £180-250/night. The room itself and the hotel looks impressive but the working order of the room and its management/maintenance is abyssmal. The bathroom sink light did not function. The minibar light kept flickering on and off for 2 nights, not letting us sleep. After complaining for 2 days we got moved to another room. The bath plug did not work thus the bath would not empty itself. On the second night a soiled (with poo marks) face flannel fell out of the duvet cover. Both our keycards kept failing to work despite keeping them separate and away from magnets. It is clear the maintenance and the management of this hotel leaves a lot to be desired for. They offered to do the repairs to our complaints whilst we were there. I refused, stating these should be performed in between rentals not cause further discomfort to clients. Very unhappy! stay away from this Hotel!
