Not worth hiring a car as bus services reasonably priced and frequent, just a short walk from the hotel Bring an umbrella as often drizzly in the morning in the autumn!

Basic but Good Value

Small single room, window bad condition & door sticks. No newspaper offered & breakfast buffet & not served at table, both not as advertised. Staff helpful & food good. Refurb needed & seems to have been promised for some time now! Good direct bus routes into city (don't take English bus passes though.

Weekend in Edinburgh

We booked this hotel for a family weekend away, 2 couples, and we couldn't have made a better choice. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel looks a little tired in places but the new owners who have recently acquired the property are busy refurbishing it. When they have finished it will be 5 * in my opinion. The one member of staff who really deserves a mention is Gronya ( apologies for the spelling ) who tells us she came to Edinburgh for a weekend 15 years ago and has been here ever since. The breakfast is not to be missed as it will set you up for the day. We didn't eat in the restaurant but plenty of the locals were coming in to eat so it must be good. I defy anybody to feel miserable after meeting her as she will brighten your day, she always has a comment to make that will make you laugh and she is an asset to the hotel. The hotel is about 10 minutes on the local bus into Edinburgh centre or £9 in a taxi. We will be back to stay at the Ellersly next time we are in Edinburgh.
